Humane Education Presentations: Professional Development

Recognizing that today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders — in business, education, government, social justice activism, and all spheres of public life — Farm Sanctuary is educating young hearts and minds about our modern food system. The natural sense of compassion that many youth possess for animals, combined with critical thinking skills and knowledge of our food system, is a powerful force for positive change. Studies have also shown that humane education has benefits for academic performance as well as student health and development. I viewed 5 hours of pre-recorded informative and engaging presentations for students of all ages. Pictured here is Stanton Steer who now lives a happy and healthy life at Farm Sanctuary.

How to Teach Art from Home: COVID-19 Webinars with the Art of Education University

Last night I watched a 2-hour online webinar focusing on how to teach classroom art from home. It looks like this will be the 'new normal' at some stage here in Melbourne, although schools remain open right now. Art teachers are the most creative teachers on the planet, and this was an inspiring webinar packed full of tips and strategies around content, assessment and the tech side of things! I will continue watching these in the weeks to come!

Term 4, 2019

This year I have been casual relief teaching at Glen Katherine Primary School in Eltham North, Victoria, Australia and doing volunteer work in animal advocacy. Here I am talking about kindness during an Edgar's Mission, Joining the Dots presentation for a Beveridge Primary School school holidays program with students from Foundation to Grade 6!

What's Happening in 2017

I'm currently working through an online business course and designing my own business, which is very exciting! I'm utilising all of my teacher skills in program and lesson writing to create materials and courses to support people who are making the transition to a vegan diet and lifestyle.

Online Art Teaching Courses

I recently completed the Teaching Art 101 (25 hours) and Summer Workshop (8 hours) courses with Patty Palmer of Deep Space Sparkle! Great fun and I learned many new techniques as well as teaching strategies. Here is a collection of my completed practice artworks.

Visual and Graphic Design Introductory Course

I have just finished an ALISON short, free online course in Visual and Graphic Design (2 hours). This was an introductory course in the elements of design, which will be helpful in my teaching of visual arts.
